In collaboration with the 2025 Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) Architecture & Design program, TMU and the Department of Architectural Science (DAS) is excited to host the internationally acclaimed architect Mario Cucinella for an in-depth masterclass exploring how architecture can respond to the environmental and social challenges of our time.
Open to students, faculty, and recent graduates in the architecture and design fields, this session will delve into Cucinella’s design philosophy, research approach, his work and his Bologna and Milan-based studio, MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects (external link) .
Participants will gain insight into the principles behind ecological architecture and how design can promote climate resilience, social equity, and community well-being. The Masterclass will address four thematic pillars — Environmental Quality, Life Quality, Life Cycle, and Past & Future — which frame MCA’s holistic approach to regenerative architecture as a space for research, experimentation and innovation.
Following the masterclass, attendees are welcome to stay for the opening reception of Architecture for a Sustainable Future - The Vision of Mario Cucinella, at the Paul H. Cocker Gallery.
The Masterclass and exhibition are generously supported by the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) and Toronto Metropolitan University Office of the Provost.
