Set to open in fall 2025, SCITHub integrates advanced technology in HVAC, lighting, security, and communications to explore solutions for sustainable urban environments and aid in Canada’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions. Under the guidance of DAS Professor Jenn McArthur, the two-story SCITHub will serve as a testing ground for smart home and office technologies. Research areas will include smart city technology, health-focused building environments, and carbon-reduction strategies. Support for SCITHub comes from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Ontario Research Fund, and corporate partners like Schneider Electric and Cisco. TMU’s president, Mohamed Lachemi, praised SCITHub as a model for sustainable, high-tech construction that can help mitigate climate change.
