Test Accommodations

Test accommodations apply to quizzes, timed assignments, tests, midterms, and exams.

The Accommodated Test Centre (ATC) coordinates and administers accommodated tests for students registered with AAS.

To be eligible to write tests with the ATC, students must be registered with AAS, have accommodations for tests and exams, have sent their accommodation plans to their instructors, and book their accommodated tests by the posted deadlines.

Students may require accommodations if their disability creates barriers for how they demonstrate their knowledge on a timed evaluation, or in conjunction with another accommodation they use. For example, students utilizing assistive technology, like text-to-speech or speech-to-text, may need to take tests in a private room to ensure their accommodations do not affect other students.

The Accommodated Test Centre (ATC) provides test administration in an alternative environment that allows students to demonstrate their learning. The ATC provides accommodations for both in-person and remote tests, but does not provide remote invigilation.

In-Person Tests: If the class is writing a test in-person, students with test accommodations will also write in-person at the ATC.

Remote Tests: If the class is writing a remote test, students with test accommodations will also write virtually from a remote location (i.e. not in the ATC). Applicable accommodations will be added to the online test platform according to the booking by either the instructor or the ATC. Please learn more on this process here: Accommodated Online Tests.

Test accommodations do not:

  • Allow for unlimited testing time
  • Change the number or type of test questions
  • Convert in-person to take-home tests
  • Change test dates

In order for students to access their test accommodations, they must send their accommodation plan to their instructors and submit an accommodated test booking request by the posted deadlines.

  • If a student writing in the ATC has questions during their test, the Invigilator will make best efforts to contact the instructor, however we cannot guarantee their availability. The ATC encourages instructors to provide their contact information so Invigilators can reach out if a student has questions or clarifications about the evaluation.
  • Please note: Invigilators are not able to answer questions regarding content of the evaluation.
