Supports for Sanctuary Scholars
The team at the Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC) is committed to supporting the growth and thriving of students at TMU, including students in the Sanctuary Scholars Program. Working alongside the Office of Social Innovation, our team has received direct training to better support Sanctuary Scholars. We understand the many challenges faced by students living with precarious immigration status and how these can impact students’ access to needed services and supports. We are committed to providing a safe and respectful space that honours each student’s unique lived experience.
Services provided by the CSDC team are free and confidential, and include
- individual and group counselling, psychotherapy, and mental health support
- support with navigating referrals and resources within and outside of TMU
We do not require students to present a health card nor disclose information about immigration status in order to access services at the CSDC. If you choose to disclose information about your immigration status, it will be kept in strict confidence, in accordance with the Centre's confidentiality policy. We welcome Sanctuary Scholars at TMU to reach out for support. Students are welcome but not required to self-identify as Sanctuary Scholars.
*Our services are available to full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students who are eligible to proceed in their program and not on academic leave.
