Summer Residence for Toronto Met Students

The TMU Summer Residence program is available at Pitman Hall (PIT) and International Living Learning Center (ILC) from May 6 to August 19, 2023 and only open to current TMU students staying a minimum of two months.

Room Types
There are three room types available for Summer Residence:

(1) Pitman Hall Single Room with Shared Hallway Washroom

(2) Pitman Hall Single Room in Apartment Style with Shared Washroom*

(3) International Living Learning Center Single Room with Private Washroom

Building information and virtual tour of the bedrooms is available.

*Students assigned to an apartment will have their own individual bedroom and share common spaces including the kitchen and bathroom with other occupants of the apartment. Other occupants may include TMU students and students from other post-secondary institutions staying under the Co-op Housing program.

Room Placement
Students staying for the full term (May to August) have priority placement for the "Single Room in Apartment Style with Shared Washroom" room type. Please indicate your intended rental period on the application accurately. 

Placement is based on your ranked preferences of room types and spaces are offered on a first come first serve basis. If your most preferred room type is not available, you will be assigned to the next available room type in your list of preferences. If no other room type(s) are indicated on your application and the most preferred one is filled, you will be placed on the waitlist.  

If you do not wish to be considered for any other room type besides the one you selected, please select none of the above for your second choice.

Pitman Hall Residence
Pitman Hall residence is available for Toronto Metropolitan students to stay in the summer. Pitman Hall residence was built in 1991 and is Toronto Met’s 2nd largest residence, with 14 floors and 565 rooms. Pitman Hall features a community kitchenette on each floor, a common lounge with cable TV, and laundry facilities. The main floor houses: a cafeteria, the Housing & Residence Life offices. The second floor has community lounges for larger events. Outside of Pitman Hall is the Pitman Quad; a small green space for students to access.

Single Room with Shared Hallway Washroom
Average Room Size: 11m2 / 118ft2
Single rooms are located around the common floor seating area and shared washrooms. Each floor has a shared kitchen, equipped with a microwave, oven, and full-sized fridge. Microwaves, kettles, grills, and other types of cooking equipment are prohibited in individual bedroom, but can be used in the common floor kitchen.

Single Room in Apartment Style with Shared Washroom
Average Room Size: 11m2 / 118ft2
Apartment rooms have four or five students sharing one to two three-piece baths, a kitchen and a lounge. Each student has their own room. Every floor has a common lounge with a cable television. Microwaves are supplied in common areas on every floor, but are otherwise only allowed in the kitchens of the Pitman Apartment room styles.  Microwaves, kettles, grills, and other types of cooking equipment are prohibited in individual bedrooms, but can be used in the apartment kitchen or in the common floor kitchen.

Students who were assigned to apartment styled bedroom will have their own bedroom in the apartment and share the bathroom and kitchen with three to four other students within the apartment. As the city's emergency response and restrictions change, we may modify capacity in our residences. 

The International Living Learning residence
The International Living Learning residence is an 11-storey, former hotel built in 1987 and can accommodate 256 residence students in its extra-large rooms. The ILC also features: a community kitchenette on each floor, a common lounge with cable TV, and laundry facilities. There is also a cafeteria and lounge space on the main floor of the building. 

Single Room with Private Washroom
Average Room Size: 17m2 / 183 ft2
All bedrooms are private and have an en-suite bathroom. Every floor has a common lounge with a cable television.  Microwaves are supplied in common areas on every floor. Microwaves, kettles, grills, and other types of cooking equipment are prohibited in individual bedrooms, but can be used in the common floor kitchen

The full term for TMU Summer Residence is from May 6 to August 19, 2023.

A minimum of two months tenancy is required for all housing applications. 

Students staying for the full term (May to August) have priority placement for the "Single Room in Apartment Style with Shared Washroom" room type. Please indicate your intended rental period on the application accurately. 

A $50 non-refundable application fee is due on MyServiceHub upon completing this application. Once you've made the payment, you will receive an offer of accommodation pending if spaces are available. The residence application and application fee is non-transferrable.

Room rent includes internet, hydro and all utilities.

The rental period is from the first day to the last day of the month. Prorated rent is not available. 

  • A $50 non-refundable application fee is due on MyServiceHub upon completing this application. 
  • First Month's rent is due by April 1, 2023 for all applications received prior to April 1, 2023 regardless of when the tenancy will begin. The First Month’s rent for all applications received after April 1, 2023 is due one week (7 days) after the offer of accommodations has been issued.
  • The subsequent rent will be due on the 1st day of every month on MyServiceHub.
  • A $50 late fee applies if rent is overdue for 5 days.

  1. Submit an Application Request (Application is now closed)

    Stay logged into your My TMU Account to access application form. You may need to use a private browsing window (e.g. Chrome's Incognito mode)if you still cannot access the form.                                                                                                                                                 
  2. Application Fee
    An application fee of $50 is due on MyServiceHub upon application. 
    The application is considered complete only if the application fee is paid within one week.

  3. Offer of Accommodation
    Once application fee is received, student will receive an offer of accommodation pending if spaces are available.

Roomate Request 

If you know a person(s) who is submitting to stay under the program whom you would like to request as a roommate, you can list their name under the roommate request field when submitting your application. The other person(s) must also request you as a roommate in order to complete the request. 

Housing & Residence Life will do it's best to accommodate all requests, however cannot guarantee all requests will be met.

There are different cancellations/withdrawal fees depending on the time a student chooses to cancel/withdraw.

  • Application Cancellations prior to May 6, 2023 - students will forfeit the $50 non-refundable application fee.

  • Residence Withdrawal between May 6, 2021 and May 13, 2023 - students are subject to the $400 withdrawal fee.

  • Residence Withdrawals (in the first seven days of the month) - students are subject to the $400 withdrawal fee and rent for any previous months lived in residence - not including the current month.

  • Residence Withdrawals (after the seventh day of the month) - students are subject to the $400 withdrawal fee, the current month's rent, and rent for any previous months lived in residence.

 

It is important that you read the Residence Agreement carefully. It contains information about your rights and obligations, as well as limitations and exclusions that may apply to your tenancy in residence. By moving into your summer residence room, you agree to be bound by and become a party to this agreement.

Community Standards

The Residence Community Standards set out clear expectations of acceptable behaviour within the residence community and the consequences for behaviour that is contrary to these expectations.

Residents will be allowed to sign in up to a maximum of (2) guests per day. A guest cannot be signed in more than three (3) nights in a row and cannot be signed in more than nine (9) nights per month. A resident’s guest privileges may be revoked at the discretion of Housing & Residence Life. A guest can be asked by an employee of Housing & Residence Life to leave the residence at any time.

Students who have concerns about the guest policy are encouraged to connect with the Housing office.

We understand that circumstances arise that might make you consider withdrawing from residence.  

Please note that as per the residence agreement, students are responsible for a $400.00 residence withdrawal fee. In the event that you withdraw and terminate your tenancy after the 7th of the month, in addition to a $400 withdrawal fee, you will be charged the current month’s rent.

Complete this withdrawl form (external link)  once you decide that you will be moving out of residence.

Co-op Housing for Co-op Students

The TMU Co-op Housing program is available at Pitman Hall (PIT) and International Living Learning Center (ILC) from May 6 to August 19, 2023 and only open to current students at a post-secondary institution with a confirmed co-op placement staying a minimum of two months.

Once the application is submitted and accepted, a deposit of $250 is required to complete the application. A confirmation for the space will be sent out once the deposit has been received and your application has been processed. The residence application is non-transferrable.

Payments are made through TMU's online payment portal; you will only receive a request for payment from reservations@torontomu.ca
