Interactive Research Security Scenario-Based Workshop

Presenters:  Jennifer Weese, Regional Advisor at Public Safety Canada’s Research Security Centre 

Public Safety Canada’s Research Security Centre will be partnering with the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) to host an interactive scenario-based exercise. Participants work in small groups to identify risks and propose mitigation strategies. This hands-on activity reinforces key concepts from the module and encourages practical application to real-world research security challenges. 

The scenario of focus will be “Sensitive Dual-Use Research and Affiliations of Concern,” which explores challenges in conducting dual-use or sensitive technology research with international partners, emphasizing risk identification, affiliation scrutiny, policy compliance, and mitigation to protect funding eligibility and research integrity.

This workshop is offered as a complement to the Safeguarding Science Modules (external link) .

Jennifer Weese is a Regional Advisor at Public Safety Canada’s Research Security Centre, responsible for the Ontario and Nunavut regions. She serves as a key point of contact between the research community, provincial and territorial governments, and federal departments and agencies on matters related to research security. 

NOTE: This in person workshop takes place immediately after Research Security – Risks, Mitigation and Funding Requirements. If possible, it is recommended to attend both of these workshops.
