TMU researchers awarded $4M in SSHRC funding to support solutions to societal challenges
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) researchers have received $4 million in funding from Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) to support 31 research projects across a wide range of disciplines, as announced by the Government of Canada.
“These projects reflect the strength and diversity of TMU’s research community,” said Steven N. Liss, vice-president, research and innovation at TMU. “Congratulations to our researchers for leading innovative projects that will deepen our understanding of complex societal challenges and shape a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable future.”
Fourteen emerging and established researchers from TMU have secured funding through SSHRC Insight Grants. These grants support research excellence by funding projects that advance knowledge, train students and generate significant impact on society, culture and public policy. The TMU-led multi-year research projects span five faculties and cover topics ranging from immigration, disability and Indigenous justice to workplace transformation, sustainability, AI and moral psychology.
Fifteen TMU researchers spanning five faculties have received funding through the SSHRC Insight Development Grant program. This grant program supports scholars to explore new ideas, refine research questions and test innovative approaches in their early-stage research, from climate change and community health to Indigenous knowledge, social justice and inclusive futures.
A SSHRC Partnership Development Grant was also secured by a TMU researcher who will focus on housing access solutions for international students and other communities.
A SSHRC Partnership Grant (Stage 1 development) was awarded to fund a national, Indigenous- and community-led network to research the RCMP’s role in community safety.
