TMU researchers receive SSHRC grants to expand research impact through knowledge sharing and scholarly publishing
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) researchers across five faculties have received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) to support knowledge-sharing initiatives.
SSHRC Aid to Scholarly Journals
Two TMU-led scholarly journals received SSHRC Aid to Scholarly Journals grants. The Journal of Childhood Studies aims to support the next generation of scholars while expanding access to research on children and childhood. The Fashion Studies journal aims to broaden the reach and impact of interdisciplinary fashion research through improved digital content, multimedia storytelling and greater engagement with diverse audiences.
SSHRC Connection
Six TMU researchers received SSHRC Connection grants to support events and initiatives that connect researchers with communities and expand access to Canadian research. The projects will explore topics ranging from climate change and energy access in Africa to women’s voices in architecture, the future of Canadian retail, and Black journalism, culture and youth communities.
SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis
Funding from a SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis grant will support a project that examines how migrants and refugees around the world use digital technologies and creative arts to preserve cultural memories, express their identities and stay connected to their communities. By reviewing and synthesizing research from a range of disciplines, the team plans to provide insights into emerging practices such as digital storytelling, virtual exhibitions and community-led online archives.
“These SSHRC grants highlight the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing to address pressing social, cultural and economic issues,” said Steven N. Liss, TMU’s vice-president, research and innovation. “Congratulations to our researchers for leading initiatives that will bring together communities, industries and scholars to spark meaningful dialogue, strengthen partnerships and create impact well beyond the university.”
