In this session we will be hosting a panel discussion featuring five incredible TMU students with disabilities. Those seeking disability justice have long echoed James Charlton’s call for “nothing about us without us”. Creating an inclusive learning environment is all of our responsibility, so who better to ask and learn from but those students who are most impacted by both disability and ableism? We hope you will join us to learn from these amazing students what you can do to create a more inclusive learning environment.
Session goals:
- To understand the ways that disability and non-inclusive learning environments impact students.
- To learn about the barriers that students with disabilities face in having their access needs met.
- To learn how ableism shows up and impacts students with disabilities throughout their educational careers.
- To meet amazing students with disabilities and learn how we can better support them.
Facilitated by:
- Jenny Sampirisi (AAS)
- Rachelle Bensoussan (AAS)
- Michelle Schwartz, Educational Developer (CELT)
This event is part of the AAS Teach & Talk Sessions.
