How a course is designed and delivered sends signals about who the class is and isn't for. Students at TMU receive messages about their place in higher learning in the language of the syllabus, in the ways assignments are constructed, and in the ways accommodations are talked about (or not talked about) in class and across campus. For students with disabilities these messages, whether intentional or not, can be harmful. This presentation takes a look at some of the experiences reported by graduate students at TMU and provides faculty with tools to proactively begin to design a more inclusive environment for all students.

About the AAS Teach & Talk Sessions
Academic Accommodation Support (AAS) in collaboration with the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) presents "AAS Teach & Talk Sessions". The series covers a range of topics designed to build faculty and instructors' understanding of accommodations for students with disabilities at Toronto Metropolitan University. Topics include "deep dives" into accommodations, panel discussions, inclusive course design practices, policy overviews, and more.
