Scaffolding is a process of breaking down assignments into smaller components that build on one another. A well-designed scaffolded assignment can make objectives clearer to students and help them build the skills and tools necessary to complete the work successfully. There are many benefits to scaffolding, including enhancing and maintaining academic integrity, reducing student stress and creating a more equitable classroom environment, building formative feedback into the assessment process, and making marking easier for instructors. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and get feedback on the design or redesign of an assignment to include.

Facilitated by:

  • Kasha Visutskie, Academic Integrity Specialist
  • Sam Hossack, Active Learning Classroom Coordinator
  • Michelle Schwartz, Educational Developer

This event is open to all faculty and contract lecturers and is part of the Excellence in Teaching Program (ETP).

The Excellence in Teaching Program (ETP), is designed to provide faculty (TFA, LTF) and contract lecturers (CUPE 1 and 2) with opportunities to enhance the impact of their teaching, and participate in a community of educators committed to excellence and equity in teaching and learning. As part of the ETP framework, participants attend a total of five workshops. ETP workshops are open to the entire teaching community, and will evolve to meet the needs and interests of faculty over time. Learn more about the ETP
