In the third year of this program, students spend one semester completing a 15-week professional placement, and the other semester taking academic courses that allow for focus on key interest areas. Placements may take place in the summer after 2nd year, or in the fall or winter semester of 3rd year. The academic semester will take place in fall or winter of 3rd year.

Note: JUR 300 is the only course students take in their placement semester. It is worth 6 credits, and also includes a mandatory in-class component that takes place over the week of intensives. See Significant Dates above for specific start dates.

Over the course of this program, students must take 11 elective courses (10 for students admitted 2022 and earlier). Students can select 11 of the courses below over 2nd and 3rd year, which allows them to customize their JD degree to reflect their interests and ambitions in different areas of the law. 

Keep in mind that course offerings vary semester to semester, and that not every elective is available in every semester.

Note: Intensive courses are mandatory, in-person classes that occur the week before all other regularly-scheduled semester-long classes begin. They take place over 5 full days in the Fall, and 4 full days in the Winter. Please see the Significant Dates table above for the intensive start dates.
