Maureen Silcoff, Lawyer-in-Residence at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law
We are delighted to welcome Maureen Silcoff as our new Lawyer-in-Residence at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law.
Maureen first joined the Lincoln Alexander community as an instructor in 2021 and was instrumental in designing our public interest litigation and immigration and refugee law courses. A leading refugee and immigration lawyer, Maureen is a partner at Silcoff Shacter and a former member of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Having practiced law since 1988, Maureen has extensive experience in litigating complex Charter cases, advocating for refugee rights, and promoting access to justice.
Maureen previously served as a refugee law instructor at UBC's Extended Learning program and co-designed the Ethics and Professional Responsibility course for the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law at Queen's University. From 2019 to 2021, she served as the President of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers where she managed litigation, advocacy, and conferences. Maureen holds a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Political Science with Distinction) from Concordia University.
As Lawyer-in-Residence, Maureen will help to strengthen the law school's professional programming related to social justice advocacy. She will also identify strategic partnership opportunities for the law school within the legal profession, as well as with NGOs and governmental organizations.
