Senate Elections

Senate Elections occur in the Spring and are conducted before April 1. The election schedule, vacancies, the election process and guidelines are announced annually early in the winter term and posted on the Senate website.

Standing Committee elections are usually held in Spring for faculty and announced by the May or June senate meeting (whichever applies) with the exception of many student senator positions, whereby the process to fill vacant positions begins in September, after Senate Orientation has occurred.

Appointment of Academic Administrators (AAA Policy) Elections

Vice-Provost, Academic - 2026 Review Committee

Nominations Open:    Monday, October 5, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.
Nominations Close:    Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.

COMMITTEE COMPOSITION:

According to the AAA policy, the composition of the review committee for the Vice-Provost, Academic is as follows:

  • Five (5) tenured faculty members/career librarians, with no more than one member per Faculty/Division
  • One (1) Dean or Vice-Provost selected by the Deans and Vice-Provosts
  • One (1) undergraduate/graduate student elected by undergraduate and graduate students

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Student Eligibility: Undergraduate/Graduate students currently registered (in good academic standing) in an undergraduate/graduate program at Toronto Metropolitan University leading to an undergraduate/graduate degree are eligible for nomination. Undergraduate/Graduate students may nominate, second and vote for one (1) candidate.

Tenured Faculty/Career Librarian Eligibility: Faculty and librarian members of the TFA may nominate candidates, and all faculty and librarians as a whole shall vote for up to five (5) candidates. The candidate receiving the most votes will serve; subsequent candidates to a total of five (5) will be chosen from the list in the order of most votes as long as their Faculty/Division is not already represented, such that the elected members will all be from different Faculties/Divisions. In the event that there are not candidates from at least five (5) Faculties/Divisions, then the selection will proceed in a similar manner so as to minimize the potential for one Faculty/Division to dominate.

If a librarian is elected to the review committee, they must be full-time University employees past their probationary period.

PROCEDURE: The fully completed nomination form (external link, opens in new window)  must be submitted by the nominee using this Google form (external link, opens in new window)  between Monday, October 5, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. - Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Note that submissions received outside of this form and/or after the closing date will be deemed invalid and will not be considered.

After the close of the nomination period, the Senate Office will seek approval from the relevant offices to certify that each nominator, seconder, and candidate conform to the eligibility requirements set out on the nomination form.

If you have any questions, please contact the Senate Office, senate@torontomu.ca.
