About this event
Laboratories and studios are often central to STEM learning, yet their full potential as teaching and learning environments may not always be realized. This workshop invites faculty to reflect on the goals of labs and studios and consider ways in which these spaces can equitably equip learners with core disciplinary skills, while also fostering collaboration and critical thinking. Together, we will explore strategies that seek to address questions such as: What unique learning opportunities can our lab and studio spaces offer learners? How can instructors foster inclusion and collaboration in these spaces? And what forms of assessment best capture the learning that takes place in labs and studios? Attendees will leave with concrete strategies for enhancing their lab and studio pedagogy.
This workshop is part of the Engaging STEM Learners Workshop Series, which is dedicated to supporting faculty in STEM disciplines. The series creates space for instructors to explore evidence-based strategies, share practical approaches to common challenges in STEM teaching, and connect with colleagues across departments. Each session highlights STEM-specific insights into course design, assessment, and classroom practices, while fostering a community of educators committed to supporting student engagement and success.
