This presentation examines the intersection of traditional close reading methodologies and generative AI, positioning careful textual analysis as an essential skill for the digital age.
Dr. Ward Risvold is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Computer Science at Georgia College & State University, where he also serves as Director of both the Center of Technology and Empowerment and The AI Lab. His research bridges the humanities and technology, with particular expertise in artificial intelligence applications in education and business communication. Dr. Risvold earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Georgia, specializing in the history of the English book trade and digital humanities.
A recognized authority on AI implementation in academic and professional settings, Dr. Risvold frequently presents at universities and professional organizations across the globe on topics ranging from AI-enhanced teaching methodologies to business applications of generative AI. His recent research explores critical thinking assessment in AI-integrated education and the application of plain language principles in business communication. He has published extensively on these subjects, including his 2025 book "Professional Writing & AI Prompting" and several peer-reviewed articles on AI's impact on student performance and business communication practices.
