It's in your best interest to write your English proficiency test and have the score submitted to TMU as soon as possible. Your application won't be considered complete without your test score.
For fall 2026, the deadline date to provide a test score is April 1, 2026.
If you’re an international student applying for admission to winter 2026, the deadline date to provide a test score was November 4, 2025. Please review the list of available programs for international students and provide a test score immediately.
General requirements
If you’re not required to write an English language proficiency test and we receive a failing test score, we reserve the right to deny admission or revoke an Offer of Admission (or offer you a place in a TMU English language pathway program).
TMU reserves the right to request proof of English language proficiency, in the form of an English language test score or alternate documentation, from any applicant regardless of background.
You must include your complete academic history on your application (all secondary and post-secondary schools attended). Your academic transcripts must be submitted via your ChooseTMU Applicant Portal (with the exception of current Ontario secondary school students) in order for us to verify your English proficiency.
All applicants, including those who must submit proof of English language proficiency, are required to present a senior level English course (equivalent to a Grade 12 U English course in Ontario). TMU won't accept Grade 12 U English, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), or equivalent in lieu of a test of English language proficiency.
We reserve the right to revoke an Offer of Admission if you fail to meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements for the program to which you’ve applied.
Test results
Unofficial results you provide won't be used to meet English proficiency requirements. Only official results received directly from the testing agency will be reflected in your ChooseTMU Applicant Portal.
All English language test scores are verified. Submitting falsified or fraudulent test scores is considered academic misconduct. Applicants who are not yet students may have their Offer of Admission revoked. Current and former students are subject to Policy 60, and falsified or fraudulent documents discovered at any time will be addressed under this policy. Penalties may include, but are not limited to:
- Withdrawal from program/course enrolments
- Revocation of degree (if applicable)
TMU reserves the right to take the above actions at any point in time. Information on falsified or fraudulent documents is shared with member and affiliated institutions of the Association of the Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC).
