New Moot for 2024/2025

New to Lincoln Alexander Law in the 2024–2025 academic year, the Adam F. Fanaki Competition Law Moot offered students the opportunity to explore the intricate world of competition law and policy, tackling issues that lie at the heart of market regulation and economic fairness in Canada.

Ethan Walker, Makaila Kelly, Alyssa Shi, Carter Wachnuk, and our student researcher Martina Bestawros rose to the challenge. We’re thrilled to celebrate Makaila Kelly, who was awarded Top Respondent Oralist in the entire competition and received the prestigious Adam Fanaki Legacy Award - a testament to her exceptional skill and passion for advocacy.

A huge thank you to our outstanding coaches, Jonathan Bitran and Justin Mayne, for their incredible mentorship and support in preparing the team for this complex and rewarding moot.

Marking its debut at Lincoln Alexander Law in the 2024–2025 academic year, the Davies Corporate/Securities Moot challenged students to dive deep into the fast-paced world of corporate governance, securities regulation, and business law. Held on March 7 and 8, 2025, this national moot brought together the sharpest legal minds to tackle cutting-edge issues at the intersection of law and the capital markets.

Lincoln Alexander Law was represented by a stellar team: Kingsley Eze, Amanjot Matharu, Maryam Nihal, and Chloe (Xinyi) Wang, with Micaela Smith as the dedicated student researcher. Their impressive performance reflected both their hard work and passion for business law.

Donald G. Bowman Tax Moot

As the first competitive moot in Canada dedicated exclusively to tax law, the Donald G. Bowman Tax Moot challenges students to tackle complex statutory interpretation and public policy issues at the heart of Canada’s taxation system. This year’s competition took place in Toronto on February 28 and March 1, 2025, and drew talented advocates from law schools across the country.

Lincoln Alexander Law was proudly represented by Mackenzie DiPersio, Alisha Dossani, Sarosh Noor, and Sunny Pabla, who navigated this intricate area of law with precision, professionalism, and poise.

A special shoutout goes to our fantastic student researcher, Abbas Imam, whose contributions and strong presence were instrumental in supporting the team’s success.

The Gale Cup Moot is an annual bilingual moot court competition for law schools, held this year on February 28 and March 1, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario. Each participating team had the opportunity to present their legal arguments before a panel of distinguished judges.

Carly Agro, Manuela Marinescu, Ashley Hayman, and Sabrina Khela proudly represented Lincoln Alexander Law and delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 4th overall and advancing to the semi-finals.

We would like to thank our incredible coach, Chris Rudnicki, for his phenomenal support and guidance throughout the competition!

The Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot was held in Toronto, Ontario, on February 21–22, 2025. This unique moot focuses on intellectual property law and offers participants a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of IP while engaging with leading professionals in the field.

Lincoln Alexander Law had another impressive showing this year. Annie Yu, Ikra Saeed, Musab Abu-Ali, and Ruby Mann represented the school with distinction, supported by their dedicated researcher, Marisa Capano. Ruby Mann and Ikra Saeed were among the top three respondent teams.

Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Moot 

New Moot for 2024/2025

New to Lincoln Alexander Law for the 2024–2025 academic year, the Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Moot offered students a powerful platform to engage with some of the most pressing legal and human rights issues of our time. Held from February 27 to March 1, 2025, this national moot challenged participants to grapple with complex questions of refugee protection, immigration law, and Canada’s evolving citizenship landscape.

Our talented team, Claudia Redondo Genao, Leticia Sobue, Elena Tkacheva, and Junjun Xia, rose to the occasion with passion, insight, and unwavering commitment. Behind the scenes, Paola Gabriele served as the team’s dedicated student researcher, playing a vital role in shaping strategy and strengthening submissions.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible coaches, Adrienne Smith, Richard Wazana, and Professor Idil Atak, for their inspiring mentorship and deep expertise throughout this exciting inaugural year.

The Julius Alexander Moot is an annual competition hosted by the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada. This year’s moot was held in Toronto, Ontario, from January 30 to February 1, 2025.

Named in honour of the late Chief Justice Julius Alexander Isaac, the first Black judge appointed to the Federal Court of Canada, the moot offers students a platform to engage with issues of equity, diversity, and critical race theory. 

Kien Azinwi, Deborah Efechaobor, and Caitlyn Alegbe proudly represented Lincoln Alexander Law and delivered a fantastic performance! We sincerely thank our dedicated coaches, Dena Bonnet, Theresa Donkor, and Chetan Muram, for their invaluable guidance and support.

Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot

In its debut year at Lincoln Alexander Law, the Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot brought students to the historic halls of the University of Oxford to tackle cutting-edge issues in international IP law. Held from March 19 to 22, 2025, the competition welcomed teams from around the globe to argue before panels of leading academics, practitioners, and judges in the heart of one of the world’s most prestigious legal institutions.

Lincoln Alexander Law’s team, Kendra Chiyoko Tatemichi, Rachel Hoang Pham, and Jillian Crich, delivered thoughtful, persuasive advocacy, showcasing both their academic rigour and creative legal thinking.

We are deeply grateful to our outstanding coaches, Tracey Doyle, Laura MacDonald, and Professor Alexandra Mogyoros, whose expertise, encouragement, and guidance were instrumental in preparing the team for this remarkable international experience.

Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition occurred in Ottawa from February 20–22, 2025. As the largest moot competition in the world, it draws participants from approximately 700 law schools across 100 countries and jurisdictions. Competitors present legal arguments based on a fictional dispute between nations before the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

Lincoln Alexander Law was proudly represented by Mark Jones, Jasmine Griffith-Reid, Rachel Neufeld, and Sally Abudiab. Rishita Shukla served as the team's student researcher, showing extraordinary dedication in helping the team cross the finish line.

The team had another strong showing at the Jessup Moot, receiving outstanding feedback from judges and fellow competitors.

Walsh Family Law Moot

The Walsh Family Law Moot is open to second and third-year law students and aims to foster connections between law schools and legal practitioners. With a focus on Family Law, this year’s competition was held on March 8, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario.

Lincoln Alexander Law was proudly represented by Bianka Dunleavy, Julia Marr, Nicholas Moon, and Prarthna Patel, with the strong research support of Melissa James. We are thrilled to share that the team earned a third-place finish, showcasing both exceptional advocacy and a deep understanding of family law principles.

A heartfelt thank you to Geoff Carpenter for his incredible guidance as the Walsh Family Law Moot team coach and to Elizabeth Hyde for coaching the Walsh Family Law Negotiation team.

Warren K. Winkler Class Action Moot

New Moot for 2024/2025

New to Lincoln Alexander Law for the 2024–2025 academic year, the Warren K. Winkler Class Action Moot offers students the opportunity to engage with complex legal issues surrounding class actions in Canada. The competition took place on February 21–22, 2025.

Lincoln Alexander Law was proudly represented by Sharmeen Abedi, Simran Bakshi, Amna Butt, and Kunwar Singh, who demonstrated thoughtful analysis and strong advocacy throughout the competition.

We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated coaches, Elie Waitzer, Vlad Calina, and Christopher Campbell-Duruflé, for their guidance and mentorship in preparing the team for this exciting new moot.

The Wilson Moot, held in Toronto on February 21–22, 2025, is designed to promote justice for individuals and groups who are marginalized or disempowered within the legal system, and this year marked Lincoln Alexander Law’s second time participating in the competition.

Stuart Cameron, Paul Schweitzer, Timur Saiful, and Roajah Geran represented the law school with excellence, advancing to the semi-finals and securing a Top 4 finish among 15 Canadian law schools.

We sincerely thank coaches Michelle Biddulph, Christopher Lutes, and student coach Kristen Hogg for their expert guidance and unwavering support throughout the competition.

Lawyering Skills Competitions

Arnup Cup

The Arnup Cup is an annual trial advocacy competition. The Arnup Cup, unlike most moots, which are appeals, is a simulated trial which provides students with the opportunity to present a full case, including opening and closing arguments, examination in chief and cross-examination, and challenging evidence issues. 

Lincoln Alexander Law was proudly represented by Esther Bin-Chung, Aman Johal, Simran Bhola, and Avani Joshi, each of whom demonstrated remarkable courtroom presence and strategic thinking.

We are especially grateful to our dedicated coaches, Agapi Mavridis and Eadit Rokac, for sharing their experiences and dedicating so much of their time to the competition.

Canadian Client Consultation Competition

The Canadian Client Consultation Competition is a unique moot that simulates a law office consultation. Students take on the role of lawyers, conducting client intake interviews followed by a post-consultation period where they reflect and strategize. This year’s competition, held in Windsor, Ontario, focused on the timely and complex theme of International Humanitarian Law.

Julia Kim, Daniel Moriana, Anamaria Barbul, and Henry Sun were an outstanding representation of Lincoln Alexander Law, showcasing professionalism, empathy, and sharp legal insight. Remarkably, our teams were once again the only 1L participants in the entire competition.

Canadian National Negotiation Competition

The Canadian National Negotiation Competition (CNNC) is a competitive moot that encourages non-litigation forms of dispute resolution. Students have the opportunity to develop their oral advocacy and negotiation skills in a multiparty simulation scenario. 

This year’s competition was held in Montreal, Quebec, on March 7 and 8, 2025. Raha Afkhami Nemati, Diana Oproescu, Jenna Riina, and Nicholas Saccoia did an outstanding job representing Lincoln Alexander Law.

We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated coaches, Camille Walker and Demi Toneguzzo, for their time, support, and thoughtful mentorship throughout the team’s preparation and performance.

Kawaskimhon Moot

The Kawaskimhon Moot was held this year on March 7–8, 2025, in Kamloops, British Columbia, on the traditional territory of the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc. The Kawaskimhon moot draws on Indigenous legal traditions in conjunction with federal, provincial, and intercalation legal concepts in dispute resolution. The goal of the moot is for teams to reach a consensus on the issue at hand, which will allow students to develop a more robust understanding of Indigenous legal issues, alternative dispute resolution, and Aboriginal law.

Lawrence Elkhinovich, Simon Moll, and Alena Lisa Vidyadhar proudly represented Lincoln Alexander Law, engaging in thoughtful dialogue and demonstrating a strong commitment to collaborative legal problem-solving.

National Labour Arbitration Competition group shot

National Labour Arbitration Competition

Lincoln Alexander Law made its third appearance at the National Labour Arbitration Competition (NLAC) this February. This unique competition challenges participants to advocate from both sides of a labour dispute. Over an arbitration-filled weekend, Maddison Wilson and Layne Davis skillfully represented both Union and Management counsel.
