Call for Soapbox Science Toronto 2026 speakers now open

January 09, 2026

The annual #SoapboxSciTO event celebrates women in STEM

Soapbox Science is a novel outreach platform for female and non-binary scientists to highlight and share their research. It is an international program with 8 events scheduled in Canada and over 40 around the world.

To be a speaker you must identify as female, nonbinary or genderqueer, have a doctoral level degree (or be studying to obtain one), and be an active researcher in any of the STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) fields, either in academia or industry.

Potential speakers can find more information about the opportunity, including details on how to apply, on the Soapbox Science website (external link) . The Toronto event will be held in September at Word on the Street (external link)  festival, and you can apply directly using this Soapbox Science Toronto 2026 application form (external link) . There are also events in Montreal, Halifax, Hamilton, Kamloops, Québec City, Waterloo, and Winnipeg in 2026. The deadline to apply is March 2.

This is a great opportunity for faculty, postdocs and PhD students (or equivalent, e.g. PharmD) as well as those in industry to gain new science communication skills and share their work while challenging stereotypes.
