Ronald Keeble

Ronald Keeble joined the faculty of the School of Urban and Regional Planning in 1979 after several years of practice in both the private and public sectors. He has served on two occasions as Director of the School of Planning. He has also completed terms as academic editor of PLAN CANADA (the national journal of the planning profession in Canada) and as President of the Association of Canadian University Planning Programs.

Keeble is active in the affairs of the planning profession in Canada. He completed an eight-year term representing Ontario on the National-Affiliate Membership Committee for the Canadian Institute of Planners, and co-chaired the committee for six years. He also co-directed the Planning for the Future Project which established new national standards and membership certification processes for the planning profession in Canada and for the accreditation of university planning programs.

For the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), he has served two terms as Director of Membership Services on the Governing Council and has completed an eight year term as Registrar of the planning profession of the province. Keeble was recently honoured by OPPI with the establishment of an undergraduate scholarship in his name.

As a registered professional planner in Ontario, Keeble is currently engaged in community-based planning activities in the Greater Toronto Area representing private, public and not-for-profit clients. His areas of planning practice lie in land-use planning and site planning and design.

Keeble is also active in his home community of Markham where he has served as council appointee on several committees, as a board member of several community organizations and as a volunteer for a number of local community initiatives.

His research interests include:

  • The regulation of professions
  • The professional development of planners
  • The advancement of best practices within planning
  • The integration of internationally trained planning professionals into the practice realm in Canada

His professional work is focused on the design and site planning of mixed-use and residential infill development projects.

Keeble teaches in the Studio and Theory/Practice streams of both the graduate and undergraduate planning programs.
