Biography

Ushna Khalid is a Master of Digital Media student at Toronto Metropolitan University. They completed their undergraduate degree in Digital Futures at OCAD University, where they developed a strong foundation in technology, programming, and systems thinking. Their work focuses on efficiency, automation, and scalable digital frameworks, often approaching problems through algorithmic and structural logics.

Their practice emphasizes building systems, tools, and digital structures rather than isolated artifacts. They are particularly interested in how systems and infrastructures shape human interaction, user agency, and storytelling. Through interests in games, interactive media, and speculative design, they explore environmental and system-driven forms of narrative, where rules, interfaces, and constraints become part of how stories are communicated.

Why Digital Media?

I am drawn to digital media because it sits at the intersection of technology, culture, and human behaviour. Digital media allows me to explore how systems, interfaces, and infrastructures influence the way people think, interact, and tell stories. I am particularly interested in how intentional design and automation can create more efficient, expressive, and meaningful digital experiences.

For me, digital media is not just about content or aesthetics, but about building systems that scale, adapt, and shape interaction in subtle ways. It provides the space to combine technical problem solving with critical thinking and creative storytelling.
