Biography

Ken is a multi-talented designer who is proficient in residential and interior designs. She studied architecture at the undergraduate level and has robust industry experience spanning five years. Ken strongly believes that end-users are at the center of all designs, and this belief has pushed her to expand her knowledge of user experience. Being a multidisciplinary creative, she relishes the digital aspect of architecture – from 3D modeling to digital design walkthroughs. She is also an enthusiast for immersive environments and game designs, but beyond all these, music has always been her first love and she continues to pursue this passion. She briefly attended a music institute right after graduating from architecture school, and she plans to reconnect with music through the Digital Media program. She is committed to exploring the connection between architecture, game design, and music.

Why Digital Media?

Where I come from, creative art is nothing more than just a hobby, and pursuing a career in the creative industry is considered a sure road to failure. But I want to break that “just a hobby” limitation and show that the creative arts, in general, can be managed and strategically marketed like every other career.

The Digital Media Program here at Ryerson would give me an understanding of the operating principles that drive the digital and creative industries. In the program, I would get the chance to work on entrepreneurial simulations involving real-world outcomes and this would give me a firsthand insight into the industry’s challenges. With this in hand, I hope to augment my experience and skills in design and the immersive environment and launch into the digital media world.

Major Research Paper

This study explores the theoretical methods of analyzing the layman’s perception and understanding of VR spaces. I will be designing and examining a VR model with the aim of developing user-centric measures that could be used to analyze spatial cognition in VR architectural models. This research and the guidelines developed through it will serve as a preliminary study to a proposed future project that will evaluate the effectiveness of VR in communicating the ideas of the architect or designer to non-experts.
