This workshop will cover key aspects of IP strategy including learning how to use different IP rights to protect your technology and brand, reduce your risk, and be investment ready.
We will walk participants through the process of developing a practical customized IP strategy which can be implemented and updated for achieving business goals through various phases of the business life cycle.
Speaker bios
Tony Orsi
Tony Orsi is a partner with Bereskin & Parr LLP, which is a leading IP law firm with over 70 lawyers and agents that specialize in various areas of IP. Tony’s practice focuses on patents with an emphasis on electrical, biomedical, software, cleantech, and fintech innovations as well as evaluating new technologies, and IP management strategies.
Tony has worked on patent matters with startups, mid and large-sized corporations, universities and tech transfer organizations, as well as individual inventors across Canada. He has also worked with clients to develop IP strategies as well as in-house IP programs.
Meghan Dillon
Meghan Dillon is a partner, lawyer and registered trademark agent at Bereskin & Parr LLP. Meghan's practice focuses on all aspects of brand protection. Her trademark practice includes providing opinions and advice on registrability, filing and prosecuting applications, representing clients before the Trademarks Opposition Board in opposition and expungement proceedings, and assisting clients with the management of their domestic and international trademark portfolios.
Meghan is a past member of the Trademark Agent Examination Board (Lead for Paper A) and past Chair of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada's (IPIC) Trademark Agent Training Course Committee. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Intellectual Property Review (CIPR), as well as the Legislation and Regulation Committee through the International Trademarks Association (INTA).
Toba Cooper
Toba Cooper is an associate with Bereskin & Parr LLP. Her practice focuses on copyright, trademark, dispute resolution, licensing and transactions, litigation, and other IP-related matters.
Toba graduated from the Juris Doctor program at the University of Ottawa where she also completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She also holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.
Prior to joining the firm, Toba worked at an IP boutique firm where she managed and oversaw the firm’s trademark portfolio for Canada and the US. Toba prosecuted several trademark applications in Canada and the US including obtaining and executing trademark clearance searches, providing registrability opinions, liaising and negotiating with examiners, and devising brand strategies for entrepreneurs and other corporate entities.
Toba was recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada “Ones to watch” 2023 for Intellectual Property and as a Rising Star (2021) by IP Stars.
