This month we're excited to feature Alisha Pereira from Cohort 15.0!

Alumni Spotlight: Alisha Pereira (MDM 15.0)

Content Strategist, Creative Producer & Social Media/Brand Content Creator

Alisha Pereira, a recent graduate from MDM Cohort 15.0, is already making meaningful strides in Toronto’s tech and creative communities. This October, Alisha volunteered as an Ambassador for the 5th annual Immigrants in Tech Summit, hosted by Scale Without Borders — a flagship event at the Royal Ontario Museum bringing together over 500 attendees from Canada’s tech ecosystem. As part of the event team, she supported operations, coordinated guest registration, assisted panel setups, and represented the organization throughout the summit.

Alisha discovered the opportunity through a networking community for international students, applied through a competitive vetting process, and was ultimately selected as an Ambassador — a role she excelled in thanks to her leadership experience at MDM:

“My experience organizing Industry Day as one of the class reps really came in handy… I was able to take the lead and smoothly transition into helping run the event.”

Her work allowed her to make key connections, observe live pitch sessions, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how major tech events are produced — all while serving as the first point of contact for attendees:

“Setting up the registration desk and seeing all the names… I could later connect with people on LinkedIn and say, ‘I checked you in at the event — would you be open to a coffee chat?’”

Alisha credits the MDM program with giving her the confidence and clarity to see herself not only as a creative professional but also someone capable of navigating the tech sector:

“If you’d asked me a year ago, I probably wouldn’t have walked into a tech conference thinking it was for me… but MDM helped me see how my creative production experience connects with tech.”

Her involvement on campus — from student wellbeing committees to international student support initiatives — strengthened her network, honed her leadership skills, and tied directly into her success as an Ambassador:

“My network grew through everything I participated in… it all came in clutch when Industry Day happened.”

During her time in the MDM program, Alisha also worked on independently producing a podcast with her classmates 'Ctrl + Alt + Narrate' (external link) . 

“This experience was instrumental in helping me develop my leadership and creative skills with the help of resources on campus”

Alisha’s advice for future and current MDM students:

“Put yourself out there and shoot your shot — even if you feel nervous.”

“Use the resources available to you… put in the effort and the results will come.”

Three words that describe Alisha’s MDM experience?

“Inspiring. Life changing. Confidence.”
