Career Boost program is open to the following group of students:
- Full-time International students (both undergraduate and graduate levels)
- Full-time Domestic Undergraduate students
- Full-time Domestic Graduate students
Please note Career Boost Program is not open to part-time students or alumni.
Please refer to the eligibility requirements for each group outlined below:
The Career Boost International program provides employment to full-time Undergraduate and Graduate International students who hold valid study permits and whose educational costs are not covered by Canadian government student assistance programs.
International students will need to meet all the criteria in the (google doc) Career Boost International Student Eligibility Checklist (external link) to participate in the program. Please note that students must reside in Ontario for the duration of their employment, even if the work is remote. Students must be enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program at TMU. Certificate program students and TMUIC students are not eligible.
Unlike domestic undergraduate, graduate, or law students, international students do not need to complete a formal application process to obtain a Career Boost Approval confirmation letter. Once you meet the international eligibility criteria for the respective term, you can begin applying for jobs right away! To view Career Boost job postings, sign in as a student (using your Toronto Met ID) to recruitstudents.torontomu.ca.
Please note that international students are not eligible for any jobs in “Domestic Career Boost”, so please apply only to those labelled “Career Boost International”.
Am I eligible?
Fall 2026/Winter 2027

- You are an undergraduate student
- You are enrolled in a full-time course load for both the fall term and winter term
- You have a clear academic standing and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 or higher (waived for first year, first semester undergraduate students)
- You have utilized at least one of the following funding sources for the above-noted semesters:
- Government assistance (either Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) or out-of-province student funding)
- Accessing Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) funding
- Line of credit from a banking institution or private lender
Note: If you are not utilizing at least one of the above mentioned funding resources, you may be asked to provide a written explanation and budget form as to why you did not apply for one of these resources.

- You are an international student.

Full-time is defined as a minimum of three courses for the fall term and three courses for the winter term (or two courses per term if you are a student with a registered permanent disability or persistent/prolonged disability).
Calculating Unmet Need
The unmet financial need is calculated based on the financial information you report on the budget section of the approval application. This section allows a student to report their living costs and resources while in school.
The $100 unmet need threshold does not mean the assessment of your OSAP or out-of-province funding amount.
Confirming your eligibility
Once you have read over the eligibility requirements, the next step is to obtain your Career Boost Approval confirmation letter to confirm your eligibility status! Domestic undergraduate students can submit their eligibility applications through the Career Boost portal.

If you have not yet received your Career Boost Approval or the application window has not opened, you can still apply to available roles and secure a conditional offer. The offer is contingent upon obtaining Career Boost Approval.
If a posting asks you to upload a document related to your Career Boost Approval, you can upload a Word/PDF document with a note stating that you are waiting for your approval application to be reviewed or that the application window has not yet opened.
Please note that you must only apply to roles within your student group. For example, if you are a domestic undergraduate student, you must only apply to roles within Career Boost - Domestic Undergraduate.

Here are five tips to help you understand the two-part application process.
- You need to apply for Career Boost Approval as well as for a Career Boost job.
- Getting Career Boost Approval does not guarantee that you will receive a Career Boost job.
- The opposite is also true: getting a Career Boost job offer does not guarantee that you are eligible for the Career Boost program.
- Apply for Career Boost approval by the deadline date outlined under the Significant Program Dates section above.
- You can only hold one Career Boost position at any time. You can apply for as many jobs as you wish, however once you have accepted a job offer you are expected to honour your commitment to one employer.
You can learn about how to apply for Career Boost Approval by reading each Career Boost program description above.
