Landing your dream job requires tenacity and hard work. To increase your likelihood of success, use a variety of job search strategies, including networking, informational interviews, labour market research, part-time or volunteer work, internships, and leveraging social media. That said, online job postings are of the “go-to” resource for job seekers that can potentially provide leads, so we have included some key job search resources for you here.

As a student or alumna, Magnet provides you an opportunity to:
- highlight and showcase your education, skills, projects, and qualifications
- privately and securely disclose any relevant employment equity category, such as a disability
- receive targeted messages from employers based on your profile.
Step 1: Navigate to the landing page you were provided.
Step 2: Create your account.
- Click on the Create an Account button at the bottom of the login panel.
- A drop-down menu will appear asking you which type of account you want to create. Click on Job Seeker. You will be directed to the Job Seeker Sign-up Form.
Step 3: Fill out the Job Seeker Sign Up Form.
- Job Seekers have two options for creating an account: with a Social Media account, or with an email address.

Magnet acts as a central database for different job boards including Indeed, Canada Job Bank, the Toronto Metropolitan University Community, and the internal job listings for Magnet itself. Follow the steps below to begin looking through these job boards.
Step 1: Navigate to the Job Search page
The Job Search section allows you to browse through job postings created on the Magnet platform, in addition to those hosted on other job sites like Indeed.
- Select “Job Search” from the tool menu on the left side of the screen
Step 2: Specific the Job Site to search on.
- To begin your search, first select the Job Site on which you will run your search.
- Magnet
- Canada Job Bank
- Indeed
- Toronto Metropolitan University Community
Step 3: Set your search criteria.
You can refine your search results by setting search criteria using the first fields, What and Where.
- Enter a job title, description or employer name in the bar titled “What?”
- Enter a location to narrow down your search in the bar titled “Where?”
- Tip: To further narrow your search, select “Additional Filters” located beneath the “What” search bar. The additional filters allow you to target job listings by levels, functions, and types.
Step 4: Run a search on either Magnet or any Community Job Site (if applicable) then click on any Magnet Member Posting. This will open the posting view.
Step 5 (Optional): To apply to a Magnet Member Posting, click on the posting, then click “Apply.”
- Clicking "Apply" will reveal file uploaders for each of the attachment types the employer required (if applicable) as part of the application.
