If your cumulative GPA (CGPA) falls below 1.67, your Academic Standing will change to 'Probationary.' The Undergraduate Program Academic Standings, Consequences and Next Steps section of the Academic Standings (opens in new window)  page outlines the consequences of a Probationary standing.

The Faculty of Arts - Academic Success (opens in new window)  page also has some great information on Academic Standings and resources available to students.

If your cumulative GPA (CGPA) falls below 1.00 (unless you are enrolled in your first semester) or the default grade indicated on your Probationary standing requirements, your academic standing will change to 'Required to Withdraw' (RTW).

The Required to Withdraw  (opens in new window) page outlines the consequences of an RTW standing.

The Fresh Start program is part of Toronto Metropolitan University's (TMU) overall support strategy for students in academic jeopardy. Fresh Start is a two-term program designed to assist students with a Required to Withdraw (RTW) (opens in new window)  Academic Standing in resuming their studies. The Fresh Start (opens in new window)  page provides more information on the Fresh Start Program.

To be eligible to apply to Fresh Start, a student’s CGPA when they become RTW must be at least 1.00.

A Permanent Program Withdrawal (PPW) standing is assigned when a student fails to meet a combination or one of the conditions for one of the following reasons:

  1. Any academic performance that would result in RTW standing for a second time
  2. Failure of a course required by their program for a third time (note: courses with NCR grades will not be considered as a failed attempt)
  3. Failure to meet the terms of a probationary contract following return after an RTW standing

Students who are assigned a standing of PPW may not apply for reinstatement into that program. Students who are permanently withdrawn from a program of study may apply to a different program of study in accordance with Undergraduate Admissions application timelines, admission policies and procedures. For more information, refer to the Academic Standings (opens in new window)  web page.
