Biography:

Dr. Raha Hassan is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Western University, an Adjunct Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, and a registered clinical psychologist in Ontario. She is the director of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEW) lab. Dr. Hassan will be joining Toronto Metropolitan University as an Assistant Professor July 2026.

Dr. Hassan received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from McMaster University under the mentorship of Dr. Louis Schmidt. She completed her predoctoral residency at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. Research in Dr. Hassan’s lab examines the role of temperament in social and emotional wellbeing. Adopting a developmental framework, Dr. Hassan and her trainees are very interested in understanding the dynamic relations among children’s social interactions and interpretations, how these processes unfold over time, and reinforce one another. She is also interested in whether these relations depend on contextual factors on a small and large scale. Dr. Hassan typically integrates a multimethod approach, but emphasizes the naturalistic observation of behavior in her research. Dr. Hassan’s research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).
