Christa Hinds
As a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario, and as someone who is deeply committed to equity and inclusion work, the renaming is incredibly important to Christa because she believes education is a critical path to healing and Indigenous resurgence. She also attests that the committee must recognize the intergenerational traumatic legacy of colonialism while honouring the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples. With Indigenous community building and well-being in mind, Christa will guide her contributions with two-eyed seeing, "To see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous ways of knowing, and to see from the other eye with the strengths of Western ways of knowing, and to use both of these eyes together" (Bartlett, Marshall, & Marshall, 2012, p. 335). She will draw on her extensive experience in postsecondary education, including a PhD in Higher Education from the University of Toronto, to centre the significance of a welcoming, accessible and inclusive campus.
