Anna Sotnykova

Elected by Administrative Staff - September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2028

After a decade at TMU and seeing firsthand the incredible growth and impact of the institution, Anna is excited to join the Board of Governors as a staff representative for the 2026–2028 term. Anna supports operations and communications at the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI), executing the Vice-President's vision to advance strategic research priorities. Anna enjoys being part of the TMU community by attending on campus events, supporting social initiatives, and serving on the Joint Health & Safety Committee since 2025.

TMU's talented colleagues, community initiatives, and dynamic research and entrepreneurship ecosystem have inspired Anna on her professional and entrepreneurial journey. Anna came to TMU following a career in advocacy and the not-for-profit sector, where she engaged all levels of government and media partners on matters related to healthcare, pharmacare, and pension reform. A dedicated community builder and mentor, she sits on the board of The First Institute of Canadian Inventors (FICI), a Canadian affiliate of the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA), supporting initiatives that advance Canadian innovation and entrepreneurship on a global stage. She has co-founded Mozarteum Canada to broaden access to arts and culture, supports inclusive family planning by volunteering with Fertility Matters Canada and was awarded the Spirit of Giving Award for fundraising support (May, 2026), and pursues her passion for storytelling that inspires and challenges perspectives as co-host of the Heart & Hustle podcast.

Anna holds a Master's in Political Science from York University, a Public Administration Diploma, and a Project Management Certificate from TMU's Chang School of Continuing Education, and remains committed to ongoing learning through micro-credential in an increasingly technology-driven landscape. A busy parent to a wonderful young daughter, Anna finds time to participate in non-competitive races, enjoying the great outdoors, and being an avid patron of the arts.
