LAUREN DWYER

Former Graduate Researcher

Lauren Dwyer is a PhD candidate in the Communication and Culture program at Toronto Met University with a background in psychology, communications, and human-robot interaction. She brings her experience in communication studies research to the project where she is focusing on the power of mass media in shaping public perceptions of technology. This specific project explores the ways media portrayal of robots can impact public perceptions of robots and embodied AI.

The shaping and framing of new technology by the media has implications for those in research and development and also for members of the public who may one day have experiences with these new technologies. How the public views technology and robots can provide much needed insight to the field with implications for the conceptualization, development, and dissemination of future technologies.
