Funding
We recognize that pursuing an MBA is a significant financial investment and want to help ensure you are able to focus on your studies and research while pursuing your Ted Rogers MBA.
There are a number of funding packages – internal and external – available to Ted Rogers MBA students.
All applications are reviewed for entrance funding during the application process.
Thanks to a $15 million donation from Ted and Loretta Rogers, each year the Ted Rogers School of Management issues Graduate Entrance Scholarships and Awards to support the professional development of our Graduate students.
Ted Rogers School Graduate Entrance Scholarship
The criteria for a Ted Rogers Graduate Entrance Scholarship is based solely on demonstrated academic excellence. This scholarship is open to full-time and part-time domestic applicants and full-time international applicants. All applicants are considered for entrance funding at the point of application. Scholarships are worth up to $15,000 each for full-time and $5,000 each for part-time candidates.
Ted Rogers School Graduate Entrance Award
The criteria for a Ted Rogers Graduate Entrance Award include academic excellence, extracurricular involvement and financial need. Successful applicants (domestic students only) to the program considered for this award will receive an application from the program before or at the beginning of their studies. Awards are up to $15,000 for full-time students and up to $5,000 for part-time students.
Ronald Alphonso Award
The award was created by Jonathan Alphonso and his mother, Helen Eliopoulos-Alphonso, in memory of Jonathan’s father and Helen’s husband, Ronald Alphonso, a TMU alumnus.
Application deadline:
April 1, 2026
Value and duration:
One (1) annual award of approximately $3,000.
Weighted criteria:
- Candidate that is a graduate student or incoming graduate student at the Ted Rogers School of Management with financial need who is interested in re-investing in themselves as part of a career transition.
- Full-time or part-time graduate student.
- Incoming students for the MBA, Master of Science in Management, PhD in Management, or Master of Health Adminstration programs.
About Ronald Alphonso
Ronald Alphonso was an extraordinary man, a proud Toronto Metropolitan University graduate, respected entrepreneur, and dedicated community member. He lived a life defined by integrity, resilience, and a deep commitment to personal growth. Ronald earned two degrees at his alma mater: an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and, later, an MBA with a specialization in technology and innovation. He exemplified the value of lifelong learning, pursuing graduate education at the age of 50 as part of a significant career transition.
Following this, Ronald founded and served as principal broker of the Mortgage Broker Store, where he built a successful business grounded in honesty, empathy, and client-focused service. Known for his generosity, sharp wit, and ability to make others feel seen and valued, Ronald left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
In honour of his legacy, the Ronald Alphonso Award has been established to support graduate students who, like Ronald, are re-investing in themselves as part of a career transition. This award reflects a commitment to fostering the next generation of business leaders and recognizes the evolving nature of work, encouraging those who are bold enough to chart new paths and pursue meaningful change through education.
Ted Rogers MBA Black Graduate Leadership Awards
The Ted Rogers MBA Black Graduate Leadership award has been developed to support domestic full-time or flex full-time Black graduate students pursuing their studies at the Ted Rogers School of Management.
These awards recognize demonstrated leadership and community involvement, and alleviate some of the financial burden associated with graduate education.
Application Deadline:
First Consideration - January 19, 2026
Applications for this award will be reviewed on an ongoing basis past the first consideration deadline based on funding availability.
Value and Duration:
The expendable funds will provide up to three (3) $10,000 awards for the 2026-2027 academic year. Funding for the award will be made available to eligible students in the Fall/Winter/Spring terms.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Candidates who are Canadian citizens, landed immigrants/permanent residents or protected persons who have been issued a Protected Persons Status Document (PPSD) and have been accepted to the Ted Rogers MBA Full-Time or Flex Full-Time MBA Program.
- Candidates who self-identify as Black.
Weighted Criteria:
- Provide a 500-word statement outlining your leadership and community involvement, demonstrating the financial impact of the award.
- Sign-off on declaration
How to apply:
- Once a student has been accepted into the MBA program, they need to complete the (PDF file) Ted Rogers MBA Black Graduate Leadership Awards form (opens in new window) which includes their 500-word statement, and declaration.
- Students would then scan and send this form to mba@torontomu.ca using the subject line “Ted Rogers MBA Black Graduate Leadership Award” by the January 19, 2026 first consideration date. Award applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis past the first consideration deadline based on funding availability.

Ted Rogers MBA Indigenous Graduate Leadership Awards
The Ted Rogers MBA Indigenous Graduate Leadership awards are available to domestic full-time or flex full-time (3-5 course credits per semester) Master of Business Administration applicants accepted into graduate studies.
These awards seek to address the historical inequities in access to graduate education in Canada experienced by Indigenous students and the underrepresentation of Indigenous students within MBA programs. The criteria for the awards are based on demonstrated leadership, community involvement and financial need.
Application Deadline:
First Consideration: January 19, 2026
Applications for this award will be reviewed on an ongoing basis past the first consideration deadline based on funding availability.
Value and Duration:
The expendable funds will provide up to two (2) $10,000 awards for the 2026-2027 academic year. Funding for the award will be made available to eligible students in the Fall/Winter/Spring terms.
Eligibility Requirements:
Candidates who self-identify as an Indigenous person to the land we know as Canada (including First Nations (Status/Non-Status), Metis, or Inuit cultural and/or ancestral background) and have been accepted to the Ted Rogers MBA Full-Time or Flex Full-Time MBA Program.
Weighted Criteria:
- Provide a 500-word statement outlining your leadership and community involvement, demonstrating the financial impact of the award.
- Sign-off on declaration

Black Graduate Student Awards
The Black Graduate Student awards are a suite of awards and bursaries established by Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (YSGPS) to support Black Students pursuing graduate studies.
Indigenous Student Funding Opportunities
Toronto Metropolitan University provides 64 Indigenous-specific student support services directly related to the main barriers of Indigenous student enrolment.

The Gupta Family Foundation Award
Established by the Gupta Family Foundation in 2023 to provide financial support to MBA students enrolled in the Ted Rogers School of Management, with a preference for students interested in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The awards provides 2 annual awards of approximately $3,500 commencing in the 2025/2026 academic year for 2 years.
Indigenous Graduate Scholarship
The scholarship provides up to three (3) $5,000 awards annually commencing in the 2020/2021 academic year. Funding for the award will be confirmed annually in March of each year and will be made available to eligible students in the Fall.
Indigenous Graduate Student Bursary
The bursary provides up to five (5) bursaries between $1000 and $5000 annually commencing in the 2020/2021 academic year. Funding for the award will be confirmed annually in March of each year and will be made available to eligible students in the Fall.
Indspire (opens in new window)
Indspire is a national Indigenous-led registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous Peoples for the long term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. They offer a number of bursaries, awards and scholarships (external link) for post-secondary students with deadlines throughout the year.
Assistantships
Research Assistants
As a Research Assistant (RA), students assist principal investigators in conducting research activities not related to the students' studies.
Graduate (Teaching) Assistants
Full-time Ted Rogers MBA students are eligible to be Graduate (Teaching) Assistants (GAs). GAs are graduate students who are employed to assist with teaching or related duties. Full-time graduate students can be employed for a maximum of 10 hours per week as GAs.

BMO Student Line of Credit
A BMO Professional Student Line of Credit is a flexible, affordable way to pay for your business studies.
How it works:
- You have access to funds whenever you need them and only pay interest on what you borrow
- There are no annual or monthly fees
- You can pay the entire outstanding balance whenever you want, without a penalty
- Make interest-only payments while you are still in school and up to two years after graduation, followed by a monthly repayment schedule

Ontario Student Assistance Program Grants and Loans (OSAP)
All Graduate Programs at the Ted Rogers School of Management are eligible for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Upon acceptance to one of these programs, eligible students may apply for a combination or government grants and/or loans.
