About
The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is pleased to invite applications to it's Fall 2026 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Retreat on November 23-24, 2026 (10:00am-4:30pm). This in-person, two-day retreat hosted on-campus at TMU offers faculty dedicated and intensive time and structured support to develop, refine, or advance new and existing SoTL projects focused on the systematic study of student learning.
Participants will engage in a blend of guided and self-directed activities, including:
- Individual project consultations with experts in SoTL at TMU
- Developing and planning a complete SoTL project, including ideation, methodology, and dissemination, that could be used for future grant and fellowship applications
- Group seminars and collaborative working sessions with other SoTL-engaged faculty
- Time for independent writing, planning, and analysis
Registration Details
We invite TFA, CUPE, and clinical faculty across all departments at TMU. Prior experience with SoTL is not required, though, given the hands-on nature of the retreat, we encourage faculty to register with a general understanding of SoTL and a SoTL project idea in mind.
To register, please submit using this Google Form (external link) a proposed plan for the retreat (2 pages max using (google doc) this template (external link) : that includes:
- The project you’d like to work on.
- What you hope to learn at the retreat.
- Areas of interest in SoTL.
- If you would be willing to facilitate a session on a specific teaching and learning topic.
- Any relevant SoTL experience (publications, presentations, etc.)
Space is limited to 10 attendees. Participants will be selected based on a combination of first-come, first-served registration and review of their proposed plan.
Registration will close on Monday, November 2, 2026, 5:00 PM ET or once capacity is reached. Full details will be sent to registrants in mid-November.
