About

Faculty express uncertainty about how to navigate student disclosure in the academic accommodation process. What starts off as a request for an assignment extension, alternate format or physical space accommodation can widen into more personal and sensitive disclosure of students’ life circumstances. As faculty we understand and strive to meet the obligation to accommodate students, but remain uncomfortable about and unsettled by the perceived amount, significance and intensity of personal information students sometimes share.

This interactive workshop, facilitated by members of the Live Actor Simulation team in partnership with AAS and Positive Space, offers faculty, contract lectures and academic assistants practical strategies and critical insight about students' disclosure around intersectional disability experience. Participants will explore how to navigate their own initial response to accommodating student learning requirements informed by disability justice, human rights and academic quality

The workshop will strengthen capacity to create learning spaces that anticipate and welcome difference through practically working through accommodation request and disclosure scenarios.
