This year’s Sociology Awards Night took place on Monday March 23rd, recognizing the outstanding achievements of sociology students during the 2025-26 academic year.

Alumnus Justin Bobb (Sociology ‘12), Executive Director of Peacebuilders Canada, delivered an inspirational keynote address, which included a participatory rock-paper-scissors tournament that got everyone on their feet and taught some deep lessons about being open to failure on the path to excellence.

Awards recipients included:

  • Arissa Joy Silva, receiving the Slobodan Drakulic Memorial Award for the student who has demonstrated the greatest improvement in their grades over the previous academic year
  • Sani Bediako, receiving the C.T. Gillin Community Development Award for the student who most demonstrated a commitment to fostering a sense of community among Sociology program students
  • Isaiah Jones, receiving the Mustafa Koç Food Justice Award for a student who, through research or action, has worked to improve food access for marginalized groups in Canada or globally
  • Oliver Bullington-McGuire, receiving the Sociology Early Achievement Award, for the student with the highest GPA in the first year of their studies

It was a memorable evening for all who attended, showcasing the outstanding students in the Sociology program. Congratulations to all of the award recipients!
