Nearly 120 years after publication, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s red-haired heroine continues to delight and inspire—but the story of her creator remains largely unsung. Join us for the launch of Irene Gammel’s new nonfiction book, Looking for Anne of Green Gables: Lucy Maud Montgomery and Her Timeless Heroine, a one-of-a-kind exploration into the elusive author and the making of one of modern fiction’s most beloved characters.

This event will be of special interest to Arts Faculty members engaged in literary studies, visual culture, photography, and media arts. At the heart of Gammel’s research is a striking 1901 photograph of Evelyn Nesbit—revealed through a belated journal entry to be the visual inspiration for Anne. This discovery opens new conversations about the role of archival photography in literary creation, and the ways visual media shape cultural memory.

We invite you to celebrate this compelling intersection of image, narrative, and scholarship. Full event details are available in the attached poster.

With Kate Macdonald Butler, Montgomery's granddaughter and the Sutherland House Books team. With refreshment and entertainment.
