The Literatures of Modernity MA program's Distinguished Speaker for Fall 2024 is Dr. Elizabeth Marshall, who will be talking about her new book, _The Drinking Curriculum: A Cultural History of Childhood and Alcohol_. Through a study of popular and widely accessible texts in visual culture—temperance tracts, cartoons, film, advertisements, and public-service announcements—Marshall’s study examines how youth are targets of mixed messages about intoxication.
