MB 8018: International or Canadian Experience
This experiential capstone option enables students to better understand the cultural, business, political and economic environments that shape international markets. Before travel, students participate in pre-departure training and a structured bootcamp to prepare for their fieldwork.
In the host country, students gain first-hand exposure to international business culture by meeting with executives, engaging with local stakeholders and visiting companies. Cultural activities complement the experience by broadening global perspectives and contribute directly to the final report and presentation.
Previous destinations have included London, United Kingdom (2024, 2025), Argentina (2023) and Chile (2022), offering students valuable opportunities to apply classroom learning in diverse international settings.
Term offered: Spring/Summer
Details about the capstone will be shared in the Fall term. Space is limited and the offering is subject to change.
Course requirements
To be eligible for the International and Canadian Experience Capstone (MB 8018), students must have completed and passed all seven core courses by the Spring/Summer term, or have an approved plan of study with only one remaining core course to be completed in the following Fall term. All students enrolled in MB 8018 are required to have completed MB 8010 Strategy in a Disruptive Marketplace in the previous Winter semester.
MB 8010: Strategy in a Disruptive Marketplace
This dynamic course examines contemporary business topics and requires significant advance preparation, both individually and in groups, and extensive class interaction. Its central learning element is case studies and the Strategy Live Case Project. The latter serves as an integrative and experiential learning exercise and enables students to conduct a comprehensive strategic analysis of established companies and to address real-life strategic challenges/issues at the firm-, industry- and business environment levels. Students will address multi-divisional corporate strategy challenges/issues and specific strategic choices for individual business units; and will develop skills as general manager, consultant or strategist, to analyze, craft and implement strategies that gain a sustainable competitive advantage and ensure growth and performance.
Note:
International students studying in Canada on a student visa must provide valid documentation confirming that their visa or permit allows them to travel to the international capstone and re-enter Canada. This documentation is required to ensure successful participation in the capstone course and completion upon return.
