Biography

Soukaina fostered her creativity and love for digital media during her undergraduate in Media Production at Ryerson University, where she honed in on her proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, learned digital media storytelling, and established an all-round skillset in content creation for various platforms (video, television, podcast, radio AR/VR, transmedia and live productions).

After graduating with honours, Soukaina went on to continue her passion for digital media in pursuing digital media marketing, having worked as a digital media analyst, social media specialist, and marketing communications coordinator. Within each role, she increased her knowledge and expertise in social and digital media, producing captivating content through copywriting, graphic design, video editing, sound designing, and creating innovative social media campaigns. Her accolades in digital media marketing include getting one of her clients to be nationally recognized as one of Canada's top women-led businesses in 2020, and having brought them to first place in the 2021 Readers' Choice Award: Mississauga region.

Despite her experience from university and work in social media marketing, she felt that she needed to improve herself to not only better her creative skills but to branch out into technical and business ventures of digital media, such as UI/UX design. Thus, the drive to learn more while refining her creativity has led her to pursue Ryerson’s Master of Digital Media (MDM).

Why Digital Media?

I chose the MDM program because I believe it would help me in becoming the following: a stronger digital media marketer, an experienced UI/UX designer, and a better storyteller. Through the MDM program, I strive to invest my bolstered knowledge of digital media in helping businesses succeed, incorporating accurate representation in media, and immersing myself in entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial ventures, becoming what it takes to become a disruptor and innovator in this industry.

Major Research Paper

I will be writing a pilot script episode and producing a trailer for my show called "Jayne and Vicky Get Loud". "Jayne and Vicky Get Loud" is a light-hearted sitcom (resembling that of "Tuca and Bertie" and "Harold and Kumar") exploring the lives and friendship between two Asian-Canadian girls as they navigate through their 20s, breaking free from the mold of the submissive, quiet Asian girl stereotype while living in a Westernized society. I hope to promote the diversity of Asian representation and fluidity of gender roles, as the show revolves around the lives of two strong Asian female leads.
