Biography
Samira has always been fascinated by different ways of storytelling in journalism as it makes serious problems or situations more tangible and can be used as a promising proxy to raise people’s awareness across the world.
Her ardor for visual communication furthermore led her to take the “Press Graphic” course which efficiently paved the way for learning about the basics of visual storytelling whether print or online.
Publishing an online magazine about the future of media, she developed a research interest in more innovative and futuristic perspectives of this field.
She has always been passionate about conveying stories through podcasts, videos, and multimedia, and recently harnessing XR potentials, which has made her more involved in the related communities and courses.
Why Digital Media?
Given this background, she aims at exploring the evolution of the digital media landscape and gaining a research foundation on related research areas including “Augmented and Virtual Reality”, “Interaction Design”, and “Digital Art and Narratives”.
Major Research Paper
This project aims to find a framework for Interactive Digital Narrative in Virtual Reality focusing on branching narrative and agency. Analyzing Storytelling VR experiences that offer interactivity and branching narratives in different media helps to find the guidelines to proceed with an MVP. This framework is applied to a narrative inspired by a story from Shahnameh written by the great Persian poet Ferdowsi. In this story, Zahaak, the king with two snakes on his shoulders, feeds these snakes with the brains of young people and choices are designed within this narrative world.
