Biography

Avis has a degree in Graphic Communications Management from Ryerson University, where she gained a unique mix of technological, creative and business expertise and practical experience in print media. As Avis was motivated to expand her skills further, she has had diverse opportunities working in startup innovation, graphic design, digital marketing and advertising.

While working closely with different art directors and creative teams, Avis developed a newfound interest and passion for digital advertising. She experienced firsthand the influences of digital marketing and visual design on businesses. Now, her goal to keep enhancing knowledge has continuously motivated and taken her abilities to the next level in the digital media field.

Why Digital Media?

Today’s world is shaped by digital media, which is at the heart of communication across industries. Coming from a print media background, I recognize the potential of merging print media and digital media to maximum business exposure. As someone who works in the advertising and communications field, I joined the Master of Digital Media program to further explore all possibilities of digital media and elevate my creativity and innovative thinkings in this growing field. 

Major Research Paper

This research creates an immersive experience using virtual reality (VR) technologies that allows a more natural perception of disability and portrays disabled people (wheelchair users) living in Toronto. The VR 360° video intends to present the narrative and story more engagingly – leading the audience to have a better understanding of accessibility issues in Toronto and to be able to learn it from the perspective of a disabled person or a wheelchair user.
