Why Digital Media?

Digital media connects the world in a manner that would be unimaginable before the pandemic. Digital media has become an integral part of both professional as well as personal aspects of our life. It also has great potential for businesses.

My previous work experience and interactions with clients from all over the world had given me the impression that I was well-versed in the nitty-gritty of business; however, when I began representing Nestle as its in-house counsel, I realized that there was a lot more that went into building and maintaining a brand. The consumer-centric approach became apparent, and the global pandemic accelerated the growth of digital media. It also helped me identify that I wanted to be a part of the bigger journey – to create something that has an impact on the audience.

An in-depth understanding of digital media can help manifest this idea into reality. The course at Ryerson definitely acts as a bridge in this transition as it allows blended learning and knowledge of various aspects of digital media ranging from the role of artificial intelligence to user experience and satisfaction. My aim is not only to learn about digital media but also to understand how to enhance user experience. Eventually, with this knowledge, I hope to be part of businesses that wish to create a lasting impact in this digital age. Lastly, I also hope to contribute to my future team with my research skills, practical experiences in business, and understanding of consumer behaviour.

Major Research Paper

My research focuses on determining how traditional marketing strategies, such as exclusive invitations, have evolved into the digital realm and whether such techniques are applicable to online platforms. I investigated Clubhouse, an audio application, to determine whether the founders' invite-only strategy was successful and whether implementing the strategy in the future will be profitable for social media platforms.
