Biography

A Toronto native, Fizza’s hobbies include music, video games, photography, baking and a variety of fabric crafts. Her creative passions eventually translated into a career, leading her to Hamilton, where she completed her Honours B.A. with a double Major in Multimedia and Theater and film at McMaster University. Fizza’s love for digital art inspired her mission to empower others to be able to access and enjoy digital art of all forms. Her focus is on improving accessibility in digital products through inclusive technology and conscious user design.

Why Digital Media?

Digital media is becoming increasingly pervasive in our society, and inclusive design is becoming more and more critical. I chose the MDM program to bring an interdisciplinary perspective to my goal of making digital media more accessible to populations that have traditionally been excluded from these spaces.

Major Research Paper

Creating a Vibro-Tactile Interface for Increased Immersion for Gamers with Visual Disabilities

Using actuators to create a gamepad that returns vibrational feedback, this project aims to create an interactive interface to create deeper immersion and accessibility in games for players with visual disabilities. The project will use computer vision to register on screen moves and enemy attacks and return feedback to the user through vibration stimulus as a haptic form of information. This project draws on concepts from the Body-Braille system, and employs an Xbox Adaptive Controller to allow for future modularity.
