Danielle Martin
Danielle Martin is an Assistant Professor in Fashion Design and Creative Direction. She is the recipient of national and international awards additionally, she has valuable experience working with internationally-renowned designers like Christian Lacroix and Roland Mouret.
Danielle has received her MA Fashion from Central Saint Martins in London, UK. She and her partner, Pao Lim, launched MARTIN LIM's label. While teaching at Toronto Metropolitan University, she is completing her PhD that focuses on the intersection of art, 3D printing technology, and fashion.
My work explores the tension between experimental design, eco-responsibility, and the expression of emotion, within the context of accelerating and ephemeral fashion. In my practice, I explore, on the one hand, the draping of fabric – a technique making use of the free line and slowness, dating back to Antiquity – and on the other hand, 3D printing – an emerging technology associated with novelty and speed.
My research projects and teaching in design and creative direction explore how the expression of emotion and eco-responsible design practices can respond to environmental issues driven by the hegemonic trend of neomania. Projects range from Fashion Design for DIY fashion as a form of creative empowerment, to the design of effective protective masks, and the experimental merging of draping and 3D printing.
