Anna Romanovska
Anna is an activist, artist, and educator who began her professional career as a costume designer for various dance, film, and theatre companies in Latvia and Canada.
She earned her Ph.D. in Adult Education and Community Development from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. Her dissertation is titled "A Subdued Palette of Subversion: Artistic Expression, Creativity, and Family Coping Strategies in Soviet Latvia." In this work, she recounts and explores how creative subversion and subterfuge can flourish during times of oppression, specifically during the twilight years of Soviet Latvia. The dissertation includes both traditional and digital media, featuring illustrations that enhance the emotional impact of the written text.
Currently, Anna is focused on allyship work, making art and life-history research.
