The Conversation describes itself as having “academic rigour” and “journalistic flair.” But where do these two professional parameters meet in the creation of content and how does content created fit within the narrated best practice of the journalistic field? Within a sociological framework, incorporating analysis using gatekeeping and field theories through the lens of media logic, researchers will explore how and when a piece of writing becomes “journalistic” and how the same piece of content may or may not be considered journalism depending on the viewpoint of the writer, the reader, and/or accepted professional norms.
