Karen Wong

Teacher-Preceptor Toronto Metropolitan University Early Learning Centre
EducationBA, RECE

Karen Wong earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education (2008), with a minor in Family Support and Community Practice. She currently is a RECE Teacher-Preceptor in the Early Learning Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University and is registered with the College of ECE

In her senior years and upon graduating, Karen started her career as a summer career placement student and program worker at various Ontario Early Years Centres. She helped to facilitate the daily program in addition to the Hello Baby Circle and school readiness program.

Karen entered into the ELC as a supply staff, and concurrently, with the valuable experience obtained from working in the community, she obtained contract positions at the ELC as a teacher-preceptor.  During these contracts, Karen acquired the experience teaching children, and interacting with students and faculty before obtaining a permanent position in 2011.

Currently, as a RECE Teacher-Preceptor in the toddler-preschool room, Karen leads the classroom with her team, mentors ECS student teachers, and contributes to the maintenance of a quality program through curriculum planning and professional development.

Although her original plan upon starting her bachelor degree was to pursue teacher’s college, the various placements that were offered by the program exposed Karen to many rewarding career possibilities.
