Parents, administration and colleagues supported Nancy's nomination - a true indication of her contributions to our profession.
A dedicated teacher for 25 years, Nancy has devoted her career to improving education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. As an ECE student she designed a preschool program plan for Deaf children. 31 years later her dream came true. Nancy developed a preschool program, located at Wexford PS, for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students from the ground up including the space, the staff and the materials. “Being able to teach in an inclusive, play-based, language enriched, modality neutral environment is a dream come true”, says Dye.
She also established a Parent Lending Library which provided support materials to assist parents in all aspects of their child's learning and a live broadcast news program. She created The Metro-Wide Lending Library of captioned materials which was used extensively by teachers across the Toronto District School Board.
Nancy's love of children, her imagination in dealing with learning challenges and her desire to go the extra mile in helping students and parents have been the hallmark of her career.
