Spring and summer 2027 dates are coming soon. Please use the 2026 dates listed below as a guide until updates are available.

Spring/Summer OSAP Sessions

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a government financial aid program made up of grants and loans that can help you pay for college or university.

Each OSAP term has defined session dates. Your OSAP application and document deadlines are based on your session’s end date. Please plan accordingly to ensure your funding is processed on time. When applying for spring/summer OSAP at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), please indicate the study period start and end date based on the session you're enrolled in. The sessions are outlined below.

Chang School Courses

Spring/summer OSAP funding will be released at the start of classes. If you enrol in Chang School courses, note that course fees are due upon enrolment. You're responsible for any late fees.

Full-Time OSAP for Spring/Summer

If you need full-time OSAP for the spring and/or summer session, your application will depend on whether you've already received full-time OSAP for the current academic year.

Choose the option that best represents you below to find out how to apply for spring/summer OSAP.

You’ll need to submit a new full-time OSAP application for spring and/or summer if:

  • You’re taking at least 3 courses (or 2 courses if you have a permanent, persistent or prolonged disability) during the spring and/or summer terms
  • And/or you're on an OSAP-eligible co-op work term but didn't apply for full-time OSAP for the fall and/or winter terms

Get Started

  • Before you can submit an application for full-time OSAP, you need to finalize your course enrolment. If you submit an application before you're enrolled in all of your classes, it will delay application processing
  • You must be enrolled in a full-time course load of at least 12 weeks to qualify for full-time OSAP as a new applicant for the current academic year. This means that your courses would run from approximately early May to late July or August
  • We recommend you check out our full-time OSAP page to learn more about the process

You'll need to submit an OSAP extension request for spring and/or summer if:

  •  You're taking at least 3 courses (or 2 courses if you have a permanent, persistent or prolonged disability) during the spring and/or summer terms. Please note that intensive courses can't be included in the minimum calculation of 2 or 3 courses
  • And/or you're on an OSAP-eligible co-op work term

Get Started

  • Before submitting the full-time OSAP extension form, you must be enrolled in all of your courses. If you submit an application before this step, it will delay application processing
  • To access the extension form, you must be logged in to your TMU email account only. If you have multiple Gmail accounts, be sure you are logged out of all personal accounts and only logged into your university account
  • Once you successfully submit your extension form, you'll receive a confirmation receipt to your TMU email address. If you don’t receive a confirmation receipt, then your extension wasn’t submitted. Be sure to check your spam folder as well

Note: You don’t need to submit a brand new application on the OSAP portal. Please only submit the full-time OSAP extension request linked in the table below.

Part-Time OSAP for Spring/Summer

You'll need to submit a new part-time OSAP application for spring and/or summer if you're taking one or 2 courses (one course if you have a permanent, persistent or prolonged disability) during the spring and/or summer terms

Get Started

Before you submit an application for part-time OSAP, you need to finalize your course enrolment. If you submit an application before you're enrolled in all your classes, it will delay application processing.

You may have needed to change your OSAP status, so it’s important to remember that part-time and full-time OSAP are 2 separate programs with separate policies and procedures. As always, before you submit your OSAP application, you’re encouraged to finalize your course enrolment first.

If you increase your course load to full-time OSAP status after part-time OSAP funding has been released within the same semester, you may be considered for additional funding under the full-time OSAP program. However, this isn't guaranteed.

If you pursue this option, you must follow all published OSAP deadline dates. Since you're moving from one OSAP program to another, there's a possibility that you may not be assessed for additional OSAP funding. For example, if you're maxed out on funding or the deadline date for additional funding has passed. Note that if additional funding is available, there will be significant delays in processing your OSAP file because of the process of moving from one OSAP program to another.

If you're in this situation, you must self-identify by phone via the ServiceHub. An OSAP advisor will connect with you to discuss your options so you can make an informed decision.

Transition Sessions

Transition sessions happen during the spring and summer. They provide an opportunity to take courses if you need to:

  • Complete a missing course
  • Retake a failed course
  • Upgrade a course grade
  • Adjust course load by taking some courses outside of the regular fall and winter terms
  • Take some upper year courses to help lighten the load for the next year

Conditional Summer Enrolment for Transition Courses

If you're enrolled in one spring course and your enrolment in the summer (2 or more courses) is conditional on passing the spring course, you can't be considered full-time for the combined spring/summer term. In this case, you're deemed part-time for spring. You can only enrol in summer courses once spring requirements are completed. This will make you part-time for the summer too.

As a result, you must submit 2 separate part-time OSAP applications. One application for the spring term and another for the summer term (after your spring course is completed and you've enrolled in your summer courses).

School and Course-Specific OSAP Considerations

If you're taking Chang School courses during the spring/summer term, you may be eligible for OSAP funding. Learn more and check out our complete list of eligible certificates on the Certificates and Microcredentials page.

Chang School course fees are due upon enrolment. If you register for spring/summer Chang School courses, you're responsible for any fees. OSAP funding will only be released at the start of your classes.

If you're a first or second year student in the Collaborative Nursing Program and are interested in spring/summer OSAP, where you apply for OSAP and your application type is based on your school and course enrolment.

If you're taking a combination of spring/summer courses at either George Brown Polytechnic or Centennial College and TMU, you can still be considered for OSAP funding for your TMU courses. To be considered for funding, please provide us with your college’s Studies at Another Institution Form by email to servicehub@torontomu.ca. Your form will be processed within 2 to 3 weeks and returned to you at the email address the form was sent from.

Please review the options below:

Apply for Full-Time Spring/Summer OSAP Through Your College If:

  • You're taking a combination of spring/summer courses at TMU and your home college and you already have an active full-time OSAP application for the current academic year through your home college
  • You're enrolled in less than 12 weeks of spring/summer study at TMU and have an active full-time OSAP application for the current academic year through your home college. If your study period is less than 12 weeks, regardless of taking a course at TMU only or a combination of courses, we can't process a brand new full-time OSAP application that is less than 12 weeks in length

Apply for Full-Time Spring/Summer OSAP Through TMU If:

  • You're in 12 or more weeks of spring/summer study at TMU and not taking any courses through your home college
  • You're in 12 or more weeks of spring/summer study at TMU, as well as courses at your home college, but don't have an active full-time OSAP application for the current academic year at your home college

Apply for Part-Time Spring/Summer OSAP (Depending on Your Course Enrolment):

  • If you're in one or 2 courses (or one course if you have a permanent, persistent or prolonged disability), you're considered part-time for OSAP purposes
    • Apply at your college: If you're enrolled part-time at your college only
    • Apply at TMU: If you're enrolled part-time at TMU only

If your study period runs from September to August, OSAP funding is typically issued in 2 disbursements:

  • Fall disbursement covers the fall term (September to December)
  • Winter disbursement covers both the winter and spring/summer terms (January to August)

The winter disbursement includes funding for the entire second half of your study period, not just the winter term.

If your Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) has been completed and your study period is listed as September to August, you've already been funded for both winter and spring/summer.

For OSAP purposes, an intensive course typically runs for 2 weeks or less. Intensive courses can't be considered while calculating OSAP course loads. If you're only taking intensive courses, you won't be eligible for OSAP.

However, if you're taking both regular courses and intensive courses, we can add the cost of your intensive course to your assessment calculation. Refer to the full-time deadlines and part-time deadlines on this page when determining your deadline date for your regular course.

For example, if you're registered in one regular course and 2 intensive courses, you'll need to apply for part-time OSAP. Only the regular courses count towards determining your OSAP course load. We'll add the cost of your 2 intensive courses to your OSAP calculation so that you can be assessed for funding for the costs of the intensive courses.

If you're a Lincoln Alexander School of Law student in your third year of studies, you're able to participate in spring/summer placements.

To qualify for full-time spring/summer OSAP, the professional placements must be 12 weeks long.

Please finalize your course enrolment before submitting your full-time OSAP application. If you submit an application before you're enrolled in all your classes, it will delay application processing. When you're ready to apply, submit a new full-time OSAP application through the OSAP portal (external link) . You don't need to complete a full-time spring/summer extension form (this form isn't available for Lincoln Alexander School of Law students).
