Certificates and Microcredentials
Thinking about pursuing a certificate or microcredential? Discover if you can get funding through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).
If you’re completing a certificate through the Chang School of Continuing Education, you might be eligible for government financial aid through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). OSAP is a government financial aid program made up of grants and loans that can help you pay for college or university.
Below, you’ll find a complete list of Chang School certificate programs at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) approved for OSAP and Continuation of Interest-Free Status (CIFS). CIFS is an opportunity for your OSAP loans to stay interest-free if you return to school.
Visit the Chang School Merit-Based Awards page to find awards and bursaries you may be eligible to apply to through TMU's awards platform, AwardSpring (external link) .
Please note: To be considered for OSAP funding, you must register in an OSAP-eligible certificate and be taking courses that count toward the certificate graduation requirements. Courses that don't count toward the certificate's completion can't be funded through OSAP. Please visit the Chang School of Continuing Education website to review required courses for certificate programs.
If you have any questions about this OSAP process, you can connect with an OSAP advisor from the TMU Student Financial Assistance team at the ServiceHub.

Direct Educational Costs
The following direct educational costs, up to a combined maximum allowance of $5,000 per study period, are considered in your OSAP assessment for your microcredential:
- Tuition
- Mandatory program fees
- Books
- Equipment (not including technology, like a laptop)

Deadline Dates
OSAP microcredential deadline dates vary depending on the timing of the course. Use the list of OSAP-approved microcredentials on this page to check your course's specific dates on its corresponding Chang School course page.
Other items to keep in mind as you apply:
- Application: Your application must be submitted by the end of your current study period
- Supporting Documents and Reviews: Submit everything you need up to 5 days after the end of your current study period
- Confirmation of Enrolment (COE): Your COE will be completed online up to 15 calendar days before the start of the study period. It'll stay available until 15 business days after the end of the study period end date
- Release of Funds: Funding can be released to you up to 15 days after your study period end date
Funding Options for Microcredentials
Unlike the full- and part-time OSAP programs, OSAP for microcredentials is only provided by the provincial government, not federal. You must accept both grant and loan funding. There's no grant-only funding option for OSAP microcredentials.
You can receive OSAP funding for multiple microcredential programs or courses that lead to a credential as long as they're OSAP-approved microcredential.
You may also overlap your microcredential study period with another program that you're currently receiving OSAP for (full-time, part-time or the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant).
Once you've successfully applied for a microcredential and OSAP funding, our Student Financial Assistance office will review your OSAP eligibility. You can track our progress with your documents by reviewing the OSAP Processing Dates page. Any eligible funds will be disbursed according to the program schedule, typically within the first week of the program. You must cover any additional fees for non-OSAP-approved courses. Additional fees won't be included in your OSAP assessment.
Unlike the full- and part-time OSAP programs, universities don't receive OSAP for microcredential funding for tuition directly from the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC). You're responsible for paying your microcredential tuition, program fees, book and equipment costs directly to TMU.
